Suggestion: kernel-unsupported iso images

Post by mdepot » 2005/09/09 13:15:41

I would like to make the suggestion to add a second set of ISOs to the CentOS distribution, one based on kernel-unsupported instead of the regular kernel.

This would allow people to easily install CentOS on a new machine and setup XFS or ReiserFS partitions, or even more importantly, install CentOS on a machine that previously had some other Linux distribution on it (including the upstream vendor's) and already has existing XFS or ReiserFS partitions with data that needs to be saved. To do this, one would simply have to boot up from a CentOS CD based on kernel-unsupported and enter "lixux reiserfs" for example at the boot prompt, similar to Fedora.

This simple addition would add a lot of value to the distribution, and yet still be based on and totally compatible with the upstream vendor. Anyone else think this is a good idea?
