Lock launcher to panel Not!

Post by taylorkh » 2011/07/26 13:28:59

I though I was imagining things but this just happened again in both the 32 and 64 bit versions. I have on my top Gnome panel:

Applications; Places; System; {firefox launcher} {gnome-commander launcher}

The two launchers are marked [X] Lock to panel.

I just installed an application called Beyond Compare. From the Applications menu I navigated to Programming; Beyond Compare and right clicked on the menu entry and selected "Add this launcher to panel". The launcher inserted itself BETWEEN the firefox and gnome-commander launchers.

It has been my experience with the Gnome panel in other distros that a new launcher added in this would will appear to the right of the gnome-commander launcher unless there is enough room between firefox and gnome-commander (which there is not in the case of these CentOS machines).

Am I missing something or is this a bug i need to report?

TIA,

Ken

p.s. Gnome version on CentOS 6 is 2.28.2

Gnome version on Ubuntu 10.04 is 2.30.2 (works as expected)

Gnome version on CentOS 5.6 is 2.16.0 (works as expected)

Well I guess I have to reply to myself :-D I have submitted a bug report on this issue 5012 for anyone who is interested.

That bug report is not likely to get any action. CentOS will not generally make a change to TUV's approach. If you don't like the way things are done in EL6 then an upstream bug report is your only viable recourse.
