[SOLVED] update centos

Post by sayres » 2011/08/04 22:37:30

Almost two weeks ago I installed centos 6.
After I installed the update.
Now it's time to get any updates?
I update every time I'm faced with this message:
[sudo] password for sayres:
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, priorities, refresh-packagekit
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
* base: mirror.mserverz.de
* elrepo: elrepo.org
* epel: mirror.xfes.ru
* extras: mirror.mserverz.de
* rpmforge: apt.sw.be
* updates: mirror.mserverz.de
8076 packages excluded due to repository priority protections
Setting up Update Process
No Packages marked for Update
I have not updated it this time?
centos 6 has many problems.
After a while, my firefox crashes whenever I'm working Joomla!I have to close firefox.
Or always Xulrunner crash message appears.

I still centos6 not yet reached an acceptable stability.
Now after you install the software automatic Bug reporting tool
Can you see the crash of centos 6.

[SOLVED] update centos

This is why many people do not install X.0 releases. I don't know if 6.0 will get any more updates as 6.1 is in the pipeline, but there may be a 6.0 Continuous Release (CR) repo. See the interminable threads on centos-devel for more:

Sorry, I am missing your point. You want to install CentOS-5 and CentOS-6, or 5.6? Sometimes people hit "," rather than "." and the lack of a space adds to the ambiguity.

Are you referring to a specific bug or to your lack of general knowledge about how to deal with existing bugs?

It is impossible to say, but it seems more attention is currently going to 5.6 [CR] (Continuous Release repo) and 5.7 than to 6.1. There may be 6.0 [CR] - TBD.

Meanwhile, there is SL-6.1 if you can't wait for CentOS. They (Scientific Linux) seem to be pursuing the opposite strategy - getting 6.x releases out before 5.x, but meanwhile providing updates built for the previous minor releases - similar to the pending [CR] repos.

(Scientific Linux) the same as is centos?
Centos 6.1 when it is released?
How is the publication schedule?

It is built from the same upstream sources, but tends to be less picky about being as close as possible to 100% bug-for-bug compatible with upstream than does CentOS. They also include additional packages in the base distro that are not in the upstream or CentOS releases. For most purposes they can be considered equivalent.

All I can say is when it is ready. There is no published schedule, and QAweb seems to be a bit neglected currently.

It seems likely that you have bad RAM. I'd suggest running memtest86+ at least overnight - 24 hours or longer is better.
