Hi all
i downloaded iso image from following link
http://mirror.its.sfu.ca/mirror/CentOS/6.0/isos/x86_64/CentOS-6.0-x86_64-bin-DVD1.iso
now it is a 64 bit OS i have installed it on DL 380 G6 hardware. which is CPU 64bit compatible.
now if i saw the output of #grep flags /proc/cpuinfo , i can see lm flags which mean it is 64bit supported.
but when i installed above Operating system it is showing as
#uname -a
i686 i686 i386
why?
also when i saw packages dir in the above iso, there was no qemu-kvm to work on virtualization. this package is available only in 64bit OS. right???
kindly suggest
64bit OS showing as i386 on 64bit machine

There's a file in the root directory of the DVD called .discinfo that contains information about the copy of the DVD that you have. About 3 lines down in that file is the architecture that it's for - x86_64 on mine.

I don't believe that is possible. I suspect you have the wrong media.

Right.

Re: 64bit OS showing as i386 on 64bit machine
Hi,
For your information, when i try to install same CentOS iso in virtualbox in my laptop. it says, this kernel requires 64bit CPU. and i am unable to install OS.
So it means i have proper 64bit kernel linux version. then why it is showing as i686 i686 i386 on DL 380 G6.
lm flags in CPU also clears doubt that CPU support 64bit.
what to do.
thanks for reply.
