Plymouth - Changing start up Theme

I am attempting to get a different theme on load of CentOS 6. I attempted the below but it always sticks to the standard theme.

plymouth-set-default-theme --list
sudo plymouth-set-default-theme THEME --rebuild-initrd

In a nutshell any particular reasons this won't work and how can I resolve it ?

Thanks

No further feedback on this issue?

I tried changing the default theme without much luck - appears to be /usr/share/Plymouth/themes/text

There are some handy steps on

http://www.ubuntugeek.com/quick-tipplymouth-themes-in-ubuntu-10-04-lucid-lynx.html

But there are slight differences between Ubuntu and CentOS, but even taking into account the placement of the files it doesn't seem to do a whole lot.

I ran into this issue a while back and reached out to the plymouth mailing list in February and just recently got a response but I have not had time to try their suggestion. I pretty much abandoned trying to change the theme in March.

Hope this might help you out, maybe you can try the plymouth mailing list also.

I did try that since I did come across it, but essentially it is just listing the boot directory....

Seems odd how such a simple thing is made so difficult =(

From the looks of things it always defaults to the "text" plymouth. I suspect this is either something to do with the way it is configured or the drivers. If I replace "text" with something else and rebuild it always seems to fail.

My aim of this is to:

Have a custom splash screen - ie A box with some branding on it
& prevent the text output being seen.

Could someone possibly give a hand getting the Plymouth "text" theme modified to have some custom branding on? The issue with simply replacing it is in the module .so component which I do not know how to create, rebuilding guides are all on Ubuntu which is obviously no good in this case.

You have to add a vga parameter to the grub.conf.
