Problem with installing Centos 6.5 from USB stick
Problem with installing Centos 6.5 from USB stick
Hi.
I'm new to CentOS and try to instlall it on Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro with no CD/DVD drive - only with SSD (Toshiba THNSNH256GMCT).
I've made an installation USB (KingstonDatatraveler G3) with CentOS distribution using Universal USB Installer (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal- ... -as-1-2-3/). It boot up slowly but successfully and:
1. During boot I gen message
"SYSLINUX 4.07 EDD....
No child node, aborting...."
2. Next, I saw the screen " - Press the <ENTER> key to begin the installation process."
3. Then i've been passed to screen
"Welcome to CentOS 6.5!" and chosen "Install system with basic video driver"
4. Then I chose Language, keyboard type and failed on selecting partition with installation images :/
I got /dev/sda1 to sda7 and /dev/sdb1 which contains /images/install.img and the other stuff
When I placed the whole stuff to one of SSD partitions It also could not be found.
Network installation also failed on "Waiting for Network Manager to configure" :/
Please help me with this installation process. It's impossible that it's so difficult that could not be managed by ordinary linux user
Thanks in advance
Beniamin

Re: Problem with installing Centos 6.5 from USB stick
The CentOS 6.5 DVD has been tested working by using dd to copy it to a USB stick without any other utility being involved. If you are on a windows system then google can locate copies of dd for windows.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Re: Problem with installing Centos 6.5 from USB stick
Thank's for your reply. I wonder if DD (for Windows, in my case) is sufficient to create bootable USB stick or I need to create bootable USB earlier and then copy .iso using DD? What tool would be the best?
Best regards

Re: Problem with installing Centos 6.5 from USB stick
Hello
I've made an bootable USB using Universal USB... Tool, then removed some files due to lack of free memory on USB stick and then put CentOS....iso into / directory.
Installer boots up from USB but when I select /dev/sdb1 (my usb stick, for sure) it claims that there is no installation image.

Re: Problem with installing Centos 6.5 from USB stick
Use dd as instructed.
Re: Problem with installing Centos 6.5 from USB stick
The DVD includes boot records so when you dd it, it will copy those to the USB stick and it should be bootable.

Re: Problem with installing Centos 6.5 from USB stick
OK, thanks. I'll try to use DD tommorow on another computer. DD fails under Win8 with AccessViolation exception :-/
By the way - which FS I need to use for that USB?

None. The dd will overwrite anything on the USB stick.beniamin wrote:By the way - which FS I need to use for that USB?

Re: Problem with installing Centos 6.5 from USB stick
Thanks. All works great since I have been using Rufus (instead of Universal USB Installer). USB stick booted up and run installer properly. I'm a new, happy user of CentOS
