An alarm, "Your BIOS is broken", apears when starting system

Post by vistawanted » 2014/06/10 15:50:44

My PC is running CentOS 6.5 x86_64 for more than 2 years. About 2 month ago, the old graphic card, ATi HD 3650, stopped working, so I replaced it by a new one, ATi HD5450. However, after that, the system seems getting troubles.
1. Used as a desktop system, the Gnome desktop was installed. Every time when I login my system and start desktop, an alarm, "Your BIOS is broken", will definitely appear. ABRT showed the reason as "WARNING: at drivers/pci/dmar.c:588 warn_invalid_dmar+0x7a/0x90() (Tainted: G I--------------- )"
2. The desktop-effect has not worked since I changed the graphic card. Actually, even the desktop-effect program cannot be opened and ABRT gives a reason "Process /usr/bin/desktop-effects was killed by signal 6".
3. I downloaded ATi Catalyst for HD5000 series (Linux version) from AMD official website and installed it. But the Catalyst control center does not work as well. The command, aticonfig, feedback a message "No supported adapters detected".
Could anyone help me out? Thanks a lot.

Hi,

I had a similar issue with an HP Workstation. I resolved it by flashing the bios according to the instructions on the HP website.

Thanks,
Alex
