[SOLVED] CentOS 6.4 -> Unable to read group information from repositories.

Post by Arul » 2013/10/02 03:09:14

Hi All,

I tried to install CentOS 6.4 from DVD(having ISO image). Anaconda Installer started well and went up to "Install Boot loader on /dev/sda and use a boot loader password" screen. In this screen, I pressed "Next" button. But I got the following error with two buttons "Retry" and "Exit Installer":

"Unable to read group information from repositories. This is a problem with the generation of your install tree."

I gave 38625MB for ext4 with mount point as / and 3998 for swap.

Please give your suggestion on how to resolve this issue.

Thank you.

Regards,
Arul

Does the md5sum of the ISO image match what's posted on the mirror sites? If you burnt physical media, did you perform the verification step when asked after first booting it up?

It sounds like your DVD is corrupt.

Hi Trevor,

Thank you for your reply.

You are correct. The image in the DVD (written at 8x speed) is corrupted.

Hence, I wrote ISO in to a new DVD at 4x speed. Verification succeeded and media test also succeeded.

With this DVD, I was able to install CentOS 6.4 successfully.

Have a good day.

Arul

Regarding your original problem "Unable to read group information from repositories" etc.

I found that I got this error too. I initially installed using the 'overwrite all existing partitions/installs' i.e. use the whole HDD. After getting the error we're talking about I restarted the installation process but selected the option to maintain existing partitions. This fixed the issue for me.

I said pretty much exactly the above on http://workingmatt.blogspot.co.uk/2014/ ... oblem.html - the link's here in case any useful comments appear on the blog over time.

This also happened to me when trying to pxe install with xCAT. I had to run 'copycds <PATH TO ISOS>' again and everything worked. Running the copycd's command did not overwrite my custom OS definition cloned from the CENTOS 6.5 default, so that was a relief.
