Re: Install CentOS 6.6 using USB
TrevorH could you please direct me to a URL for dd or rawrite2 that works with Windows 7. All I find are programs circa 2000 talking about floppy drives. I'd be happy to follow instructions but I feel like I'm in a time warp back to the beginning of computing. =)

Re: Install CentOS 6.6 using USB
Thank you Alan for your suggestion. I downloaded rawWrite for windows and upon launching it I get the following screens. Not sure where to go from here. My USB flash drive is plugged in and I can use it as normal. Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Install CentOS 6.6 using USB
Hmm . . . Sorry. It seems even that web-page is stuck in the age of the floppy-disk.

Re: Install CentOS 6.6 using USB
We have a duplicate thread running here. In the other one, I pointed to the USB Install wiki page and from that there is a link to a more recent rawrite2.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Re: [SOLVED] Install CentOS 6.6 using USB
=== SOLVED ===
It turns out the old system I was using had a BIOS that did not support booting from a USB drive. I did update the BIOS but then the USB drive wasn't seen at all. Bottom line is I bought a new system and was able to install CentOS 7.0 off of a DVD no problem. Just for grins I tried installing CentOS 6.6 using the USB drive that wasn't working and that works fine as well. No problems whatsoever. Therefore my process of getting ISO to USB worked all along. I guess the lesson is to stop trying to deal with 10 year old systems. Thank you all for your help.

Re: [SOLVED] Install CentOS 6.6 using USB
I know this is old, but figured I would put this here, as it's one of the few links I came across when searching for a solution.
I had created a USB of 6.7 with dd if=<iso> of=/dev/sdb. However, on a Dell 1950 server, I kept getting the isolinux.bin missing or corrupt error. (On other machines, it was booting without issue.)
Finally, I saw a suggestion to, in the Dell setup, change the flash emulation from auto to hard drive. Once I did that, I then had to change hard drive boot order so the USB was checked first, and all was good.
This was the first time I'd run into the issue, and I'm pretty sure that we have most of our Dells at the default of auto, so figured it was worth mentioning.
