Adding Storage partitions

Hi,

I am new to CentOS (linux) based systems. So please forgive my ignorance. I am very much a windows, ios, macos, development engineer, however Linux is not a strong subject for me. I am testing video surveillance software running on a linux CentOS 6.5 operating system. We are using a Dell Power Edge Server that has RAID 1 for OS / RAID 5 for Storage. We use the automatic installation, the issue is that we can't seem to get the RAID 5 volume to show up in the software so that we can test recording functions. I am reading and understanding that we need to create a partition? How do we do that and format it so that the software can see that the disk is available for use.
