Kernel Version of CentOS 6.2

Post by CElliott » 2015/05/29 14:23:53

I need to know the Linux Kernel version of CentOS 6.2. I am trying to install Coudera Quick Start Hadoop into a new VirtualBox VM. VirtualBox has to know what the Kernel version is. Does anyone know what the Linux Kernel version of CentOS 6.2 is?

If you go to the CentOS Vault, then looking in the 6.2/os/Source/SPackages/ directory will show you kernel-2.6.32-220.el6.src.rpm was the initial kernel for that point release and looking in the 6.2/updates/Source/SPackages/ directory will show you that kernel-2.6.32-220.23.1.el6.src.rpm was the very last update of the kernel for that point release.

So the answer to your question is 2.6.32-220.X.Y.el6, where X & Y depend upon the precision you require.

It should also be noted that 6.2 kernels are old, riddled with high severity vulnerabilities and should not be used!
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
