CentOS 6 / Cpanel Server Crashes Daily around the same time.

Post by kdolan » 2015/07/22 19:40:37

Hello,

I am running a 8 core vps with 16gigs of ram. About 4 weeks ago all of the websites I host went down due to the server running out of memory (I'm assuming). The rent a sys admin company I pay for server support told me this was due to DDOS attacks on various cpanel accounts so I suspended them to see if they were the cause of the server crash. The next day roughly at about 24 hours and 20 minutes of uptime all websites went offline but I could still access whm / cpanel. After I initiate a restart everything comes back online. This has been a daily ritual now in order to free up memory. I started using a service called bit ninja that records my servers resource usage and bans Malicious traffic by ip. This is when I noticed the memory increasing through out the day. When I use top normally mysql is at the top of the list.

++ Output of top about half way to a crash

I am looking for guidance on determining my problem / any recommendations that anyone has, I have been unable to do this on my own and now I am seeking help. Thank you in advance for any time / knowledge you toss my way.

++ Information for general problems. I used the handy getinfo.sh script to output my system info and obscured hostnames and ips.

# This is the default, if you make this bigger yum won't see if the metadata
# is newer on the remote and so you'll "gain" the bandwidth of not having to
# download the new metadata and "pay" for it by yum not having correct
# information.
# It is esp. important, to have correct metadata, for distributions like
# Fedora which don't keep old packages around. If you don't like this checking
# interupting your command line usage, it's much better to have something
# manually check the metadata once an hour (yum-updatesd will do this).

Re: CentOS 6 / Cpanel Server Crashes Daily around the same t

We cannot support systems with cPanel installed.
CPanel replaces core CentOS programs with its own programs, and then modifies the Yum configuration
so that CentOS will not update those packages.
Any advice we may give could break the system more than it is now.

CPanel is a commercial product with paid support personnel.
You need to call cPanel support for assistance.

In addition, the kernel is not CentOS either.
