Centos doesn't boot without monitor plugged in
Centos doesn't boot without monitor plugged in
I have a server running Centos 6.5. I recently realized that when I reboot without a monitor, it doesn't boot up. As far as I can tell, it is just stuck on a black screen. I also can't remotely connect to the machine at this point with say, teamviewer. Any ideas on a workaround for this without doing the whole resistor in vga deal?

6.5 is old and unsupported.
Yum update to 6.7, make sure you have the correct video driver installed ( from elrepo if necessary ), and see if problem persists.

Re: Centos doesn't boot without monitor plugged in
It's almost certainly not CentOS that won't boot without the monitor since I have many headless systems that work perfectly well. Perhaps you need to tweak some BIOS settings regarding continuing to boot after experiencing errors?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

I did update to 6.7 but that still did not help.gerald_clark wrote:6.5 is old and unsupported.

Re: Centos doesn't boot without monitor plugged in
Here is the weird thing. I tested the bios option on two different machines. I set it to use PCI express as primary display. I was able to reboot and that worked fine without a monitor. I then tried the exact same thing on another machine but that didn't help. The machine still won't boot without monitor plugged in.TrevorH wrote:It's almost certainly not CentOS that won't boot without the monitor since I have many headless systems that work perfectly well. Re: Centos doesn't boot without monitor plugged in
How are you determining that it has not booted?
You cannot have a black screen with no monitor.
It may be booting just fine but not running X without the proper driver.
X also may not start with no monitor attached as it can find no compatible video modes.
Teamviewer cannot share a display that fails to start.
Can you ping the machine?
