Hallo everyone,
I'm pretty new to CentOS and Linux in general and have the problem that my root partition is low on memory. I used du to allocate the folder which takes the most of the disk space and got to /var/lib/mysql that takes 34 GB from 50 GB. Is there a way to link/move this folder to the other partition (that one has 800 GB free disk space).

Re: Low Disk Space - /var/lib/mysql takes 34 from 50 GB
Is your database data actually 34GB or do you have your system configured with e.g. binary or relay logging that is consuming excessive disk space for no real reason?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

I do believe that die database is that big because the mainusage relies on mysql applications with lots and lots of data.

Ah, I just saw lots of other topics concerning mysql to antoher path! Sorry for the double post

The easiest and also the best way to handle this would be to resize your 800GB /home and then add more space to the other LV but you'll only be able to resize the /home filesystem downwards if it does not use the xfs filesystem. If it does then you have to back up the contents, delete and redefine it smaller, reformat it and restore the data as xfs cannot be shrunk. If it's ext4 or ext3 then you can resize2fs it while it's unmounted and get the space back that way.
