Kernel panic error while installing Centos 6.4

Post by guldam » 2017/04/20 08:27:17

I am trying installing CentOS-6.4-x86_64 in my new computer (with no O.S installed initially) with a USB into which I burned an installing ISO file via rufus. However, it throws error with messages

Kernel panic - not syncing : Attempted to kill init!
Pid : 1, comm: init Tainted : G W ------------------ H 2.6.32-358.e16.x86_64 #1
Call Trace:
[ <ffffffff8150cfc8>] ? panic+0xa7/0x16f

[ <ffffffff81073bd7>] ? sys_exit_group+0x17/0x20
[ <ffffffff8100b072>] ? system_call_fastpath+0x16/0x1b

I googled a lot and tried a few solution but i gave me no useful answer... Is there any real solution...?

thanks in advance.

Step 1: take your 6.4 iso image and chuck it away. Do not use 6.4, it's been outdated since 6.5 came out in December 2013 so is now more than 4 years old and has 4 years worth of unfixed security bugs. In addition, it's missing the last 4 years worth of hardware improvements that have been added since.

The current CentOS 6 is 6.9 and is the only maintained version. Download the 6.9 iso and use that.

Also, if possible I would use a program other than rufus to copy the iso image to your USB stick as I've seen a few reports of similar problems after using it even though it is listed as OK on our wiki page http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
