centos6.6 cant installed from usb

Post by skylord » 2017/05/09 09:56:31

I bought some new PCs and have trouble to install centos6.6.
One mainboard is GIGA b250-hd3,and another is h110-d3.
when I reboot my PC with usb, it goes black-white screen, and on the screen there is to 3-options, which are “centos6.6”, "install with basic video driver", and "rescue".The usb I use can in the old PC get to the regular situation , blue based screen with the original 5-options.

Whichever option I choose I get info "Switching to clocksource tsc" .The screen stucks there for about one minute then loopshows info likes "acpi_ns_exec_module_code_list ....acpi_processor_init+0x0/0x130...acpi_pci_slot_init+0x0/0x20...child_rip"
http://game.dami.sh/HQ/errorinstall.jpg

I tried to add boot param clocksource=acpi_pm/xen/hpet/jiffy but I get the same result.
The centos 7.0 can be installed.
I called to GIGA supporter. He said the new mainboard is optimised for win and maybe cant run in old version of centos.

Is there anything I can do to install centos6.6,thx.

CentOS 6.6 almost certainly predates your hardware so won't contain support for it. You should use CentOS 6.9 which is the latest and has support for newer hardware. CentOS 6.6 ceased to be a supported release as soon as 6.7 was released back in July 2015. 6.6 was released in late 2014 and you're trying to boot it on hardware released in 2017.

Download 6.9, copy it to a USB stick with the dd utility (or read http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey and use one of the other utilities that is known to work, not one of the ones on the known-not-to-work list).

If you succeeded in installing 6.6 then your first step would need to be to run yum update to get all the latest security fixes and then you'd be on 6.9 anyway.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

nah you're probably out of luck... but also in luck :D because your USB installation has really nothing to do with this.

yours is a kernel panic, I don't see the whole error but your motherboard/cpu may be incompatible with the earlier version of the kernel at 2.6

since you say CentOS7 works then you're sure 3.8+ kernel does work.

do you necessarily have to stay with CentOS6?

Trying to install 6.6 on a board that's so much newer than 6.6 is a recipe for errors. The 6.9 kernel has support for hardware that didn't even exist then 6.6 was released so is the correct thing to try on a newer board.
