CentOS to RHEL Association

Post by wallot » 2017/08/15 14:07:47

I am looking to get a better understanding as to how CentOS compares to the same RHEL releases. Other than support differences.

CentOS rebuilds everything that RH release as part of RHEL. Updates with .centos. in their name/version/release are modified by CentOS to remove Redhat branding (logos etc), all others are rebuilt as-is. RHEL 7 was released as CentOS 7. Their 7.1 was our 7.1.1503 (yymm on the end).
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
