Hi Team,

i want to take the back up of current state of my centos os (it is standalone) What all the best methods we can take backup, with in the system using tar and gunzip

provide more info for what you are trying to active ...
it is not really practical to backup a running OS using tar an gzip ...

Hi Snorka,

for eg

am adding users and files in various locations after doing the backup even the system got crashed by doing the patch update
i want rollback the backup file so that i can get my os along with the users and files already exist using linux what is the best method
i dont want to take snapshot or clone using the vmware esx host

Complete backup of a system: Boot from a linux live CD and use dd to clone the whole disk(s) to (an)other disk(s).
Or use rsync (in e.g. a script) to copy the relevant directories and files to another disk.

Hi Kanna,

You should check out Rear (relax and recover). It's in the repos, great live backup and bare metal recovery.
