gnome : Cents OS 6.9 - Graphic logon no longer working after yum upgrade

Hi
I have a x86 white box that has been running Cents OS 6 for YEARS .
A recent upgrade has caused the x-start gnome screen from appearing ( working ) , as well as the remote vino desktop which complains the passwd is no longer accepted. I have to access it now via a xVNC desktop ( which was luckly setup ahead of time ) on another vnc port., but I have no glass head login .

3. X.log.0 start up ..
I have no idea when it stopped because I usually access it via ssh , or vnc .
