I have a box that I dont have the root password for.
I tried the trick to edit the grub menu, but when I go to edit it, the screen charachters are garbled with lines on it and I cant see/do anything. Any other time the screen works. Is there a different method to reset the password?
Thank you

reset root password (alternate method)
Re: reset root password (alternate method)
On CentOS 7 you can do it by booting from the install DVD, selecting rescue and then running some commands.
I would guess this is possible on CentOS 6 as well - try googling.
