I am having trouble applying recently released microcode updates provided by Intel to mitigate SPECTRE.
I'm running Centos 6.10 with kernel 4.9.112-32.el6.x86_64. Have installed microcode_ctl, but when trying to check current status of microcode with "dmesg | grep microcode", its showing nothing.
[root@amd-ucode]# dmesg | grep microcode
[root@amd-ucode]#
Also, trying to reload but /sys/devices/system/cpu/microcode/reload this path does't exist.
Please assist how to enable microcode and check its status.
Meltdown & Spectre Variant 2 : microcode update
Re: Meltdown & Spectre Variant 2 : microcode update
That's not a CentOS kernel. Where did you get it from? The current CentOS 6 kernel is kernel-2.6.32-754.2.1.el6.x86_64 and does have microcode reload support built in. It's also patched against meltdown/spectre.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
