RHEL 6 upgrade using centos repo

Post by wazzu62 » 2018/08/15 17:45:46

I have a number of systems running RHEL 6.6 that are on an isolated network with no access to a RHEL repo. I don't believe they have been updated in any way for some time. On this isolated network I do have access to a Centos repo that is current.

Can I use the centos repo to update/upgrade these RHEL systems? If so, what would be the best approach?

There is an old wiki page https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/MigrationGuide that has details of how to do pretty much exactly that. Be aware that I don't think it's been maintained for some time so it may be inaccurate so, for this reason alone, you should try this out on a test system or six before you chuck a production system at the process!
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
