Python 2.x support for CentOS 6 beyond January 1, 2020?

Post by jbirmingham » 2019/09/16 22:55:01

CentOS 6 has an EOL date of November 30, 2020 but Python 2.x has an earlier EOL date of January 1, 2020. Should I expect CentOS to continue to support Python 2.x until the CentOS 6 EOL date or will CentOS support for Python 2.x cease on January 1, 2020?

Yes. Sort of. Bear in mind that all of CentOS 6 is in what's (maybe used to be) production phase 3 where Redhat only fix bugs that are deemed critical and maybe important. But since all of the system tools like yum are written in python 2, it's not going away.
CentOS 5 died in March 2017 - migrate NOW!
CentOS 6 goes EOL sooner rather than later, get upgrading!
