Firefox and possibly other updates missing
Firefox and possibly other updates missing
I think we're missing Firefox and maybe possibly other errata updates from UOP. I haven't gone through all of them, but the Firefox version stood out to me immediately.

Thanks for the hard work!

Re: Firefox and possibly other updates missing
You are right, but i' would like to tell you that CentOS is a very stable linux distribution, so it should use very stable applications. In the other hand CentOS is used as server, not like Ubuntu, Fedora. however it can be used as them.

Re: Firefox and possibly other updates missing
Thanks for the reply, but CentOS is a not just a "server distribution". It can be a client desktop, developer workstation, dedicated server or all of the above.
I'm even using it on an embedded Atom single-board-computer.

Re: Firefox and possibly other updates missing
Yes you are right my dear, but i meant that CentOS is a very stable linux distribution, so it will not contain all updated applications, but it will contain only very stable versions of them.

Those missing updates are from CentOS 6.1 which has not been relaesed yet. The developers are planning to publish them as "Continuous Release" and it was stated in the release announcement.

Since upstream has a 6.1 version already released, we will be using a
Continous Release repository for 6.0 to bring all 6.1 and post 6.1
security updates to all 6.0 users, till such time as CentOS-6.1 is
released itself. There will be more details about this posted within the
next 48 hours.

Well, the said details have not been posted yet, so keep an eye on it.

Re: Firefox and possibly other updates missing
@saleh - Dude...you're missing my point. I'm not asking why doesn't CentOS have Firefox 5.01...I know that Red Hat doesn't like to rebase their packages very often unless the pros outweigh the cons. I'm asking why CentOS 6.0 does not have all the errata updates for Firefox 3.6.x.
--
@toracat - With respect, I beg to differ. Errata for Firefox 3.6.17 was released by Red Hat during the 6.0 timeframe. So based on the 3.6.18 errata's RPM %{release} and date, I'm assuming that it came after RHEL 6.1 was released.
http://www.redhat.com/about/news/prarchive/2011/Red-Hat-Delivers-Red-Hat-Enterprise-Linux-6-1
http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2011-0471.html (Firefox 3.6.17 pre 6.1)
http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2011-0885.html (Firefox 3.6.18 post 6.1)
Basically I want to know if there is a bug holding up the Firefox errata updates that needs to be tracked...perhaps with a bugzilla entry?
BTW thanks for cplus kernel patch inclusion from bz4923.

This is exactly what the Continous Release repository is aiming at -- "to bring all 6.1 and post 6.1 security updates to all 6.0 users". The firefox update you are referencing is for 6.1. Because CentOS 6.1 is not out yet, the developers are trying to make all pending updates available through the CR repo.
