Hi there, I am posting this because I am hoping it may help someone.
I am installing CentOS 6.0 on an IBM xSeries 306. This 306 is an older system and has no dvd, and does not support booting from usb device so I am installing via ftp. My ftp host is a windows 7 box running filezilla since that was most convenient for me.
Filezilla server interface would complain, no such file when requests were being made from the installer on the 306; installer would complain about "unable to read group information" and only give option to abort installation or retry.
What I have determined is that the files are not named correctly in /repodata, specifically the file extensions were missing.
As it happens, I used 7-zip to unpack the centos iso on my windows 7 box, so either the files were not named right in the iso, or 7-zip did not name the files right when it unpacked them. It is possible this was due to the very long file names.
When the files were re-named according to the information in repomd.xml, I was able to click "retry" and the installation was successful.
here is how they WERE named

[SOLVED] ftp installation "Unable to read group information
Apparently a 7zip artifact. Your "SHOULD BE" filenames are the correct ones that exist in the standard installation tree, and on the media.

Hi!
I have used WinRAR before to unpack ISOs and it unpacks them fine. It's not open source software, but it's shareware, so you can use it just to unpack and uninstall it.
Regards.
