Post by gasolin » 2011/08/02 23:00:43

Now i have java and flash installed and working, theres a few things i would like to change, i would like to unstall KDE (think theres is alot of KDE stuff that i dont need, because i prefer gnome) and optimize boote time i think it's a bit slow, have disabled login in sound bluetooth and the remote controlled desktop app so it dosn't start upn when i boote. What else can i do ?

To get rid of my favorite desktop
yum groupremove "KDE Desktop"
:-( ;-)

For optimization (and security) turn off any unnecessary services.

Is it safe to remove kde ? i mean do i lose som security stuff or get apps who don't work or something ?

And can i install all that KDE stuff again ? if i discover that i do need alot of the KDE stuff ?

There should be no negative effect on security. Any packaged apps you have installed that depend on KDE will be removed by yum. Just be sure to check the list carefully before proceeding.
yum groupinstall "KDE Desktop"
plus re-installing anything else that is needed that was removed due to dependencies.

KDE is not required for nm-applet, nor should it have any effect on flash player. KDE is not even installed by default.
