while attempting to install sox from this tutorial

i get to make and the prompt said that automake 1.14 was not installed and
that i needed to upgrade autoconf to at least 2.5
i did these things and received all this gobbledegoop
seems i'm having a make problem and not being that skilled at linux i'm stumped
