I am trying to set up a new Brother printer on my wifi network.
I have the correct drivers installed but cannot print.
I am using Centos 6.9 and CUPS 1.4.2
I need to know the correct protocol to use and also the correct port number.
Should this be set to https, ipp, http, LPD/LPR, App Socket or something else and which port is the correct one, 631, 9100 etc
I cannot find these settings from anywhere.
Does anyone have a similar printer who can tell me their settings.
I can ping the printer and get a response, it will just not print yet.
The printer is a Brother MFC-J480DW
Any Assistance would be greatly appreciated as my new printer is useless to me at the moment.

Re: Brother printer MFC-J480DW setup in CUPS (Solved)
Hi All
If anyone is reading this and wants to know the same answer, I have found it by a very roundabout route.
I installed Centos 6.9 on an old machine.
I then downloaded the Brother linux drivers from their support page.
I unzipped them and installed, following the instructions quoted.
Make sure to answer the question will you supply the device url with a Y
Follow the prompts and give the device IP address from your network.
Finally this installs the printer to cups.
Looking there I found the protocol and port I wanted.
Select LPD
input your address, it will look something like this.
lpd://192.168.**.**/passthru
That's it all that was needed but so hard to find.
As an aside I have now waited four days for the Brother linux team to get back to me with my question.
