Resize the image so it's small enough to post. 1.6MB is too big!

Looking at that, two possibilities spring to mind: either it thinks you have a very large desktop and it is scrollable so try pushing the mouse up to the top left corner and see if it moves and if there is a bar at the top. If not then press Ctrl-Alt-F2 and you should get to a command line login prompt. Login as root and type `yum install gnome-session gnome-panel` and say yes when asked then reboot and see if it looks better.

Pushed the mouse to top left and got nothing as I don't have the mouse working. Logged in as root and typed the command you said and this is what I got.

Loaded plugins: fastestmirror,refresh-packagekit, security
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
Could not retreive mirrorlist http:mirrorlisst.centos.org/?release=6&arch+x86_64 & repo=os error was 14: PYCURL ERROR 6-"Couldn't resolve host 'mirrorlist centos.org'"
Error: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: base

Thanks.

So that sounds like a different problem, this time to do with networking. Perhaps reading point 2 in the CentOS 6 FAQ might help with that one?

that may help , but I got a better way. LOL I went out for coffee and when I returned, I tried Centos again and ... voila! it asked me to login, and as you can probably tell I'm in CentOS 6.4 now, and not windows 7 anymore. It is working well and just setting things up. So the big question is WHY did it decide to work? And a minor question: Why am I not able to install the latest Firefox. It came with version 10 and the lagtest is 19. Also FF v 10 won't allow bookmarks to be installed on the bookmark toolbar. Is this a function of an older FF version. Will log out now and try to get back and hope it works.

If you run `yum update` then you'll get CentOS 6.4 and that includes firefox 17esr. That's the 'extended support release' and is intended for enterprise customers who don't want to be updating every 10 minutes to the latest shiny release with all its new bugs. CentOS 6.3 had the firefox 10esr release but that goes out of support soon (or did already). The advantage of the esr versions is that they are supported with minor patches for a year at a time.

yum update only gave me errors as in #15 above. Logged out and back in but it won't let me in now. at the screen as posted above, did Ctl+Alt+F2 and entered the same thing as in #14 (I think). So back again not being able to log in or update which I may not do. Like to get the login to work dependably first. Thanks again.

Tried a re-install, not a fresh, got the same error as in # 15 above. Any way to fix this? Would new install help? Will do that, but hoping it can be fixed as I was able to get logged in yesterday and use Centos to set up browser, email, bookmarks, etc. Thanks for the help.

Fix your networking by consulting the FAQ link that I posted above. Maybe that will fix your desktop too! The fact that it worked after you went for coffee might indicate that it's waiting for something from the network and the coffee period allowed it to timeout.
