[abrt] a crash has been detectd firefox plugin

Post by hoodcanaljim » 2017/10/31 15:37:44

Hi
I have been getting this error for several weeks now and thought it was a update issue but there have been updates of everybody during that time. I am getting them a the rate of 4-10 a day and mostly when running youtube.

Linux tri 2.6.32-696.13.2.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Oct 5 21:22:16 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The error that is detected does not shut down firefox or produce any error messages from it. I've run mozilla's test procedures and found nothing and never got any response from the mozilla forum.

Below is part of the message that comes by email from the abrt daemon. Its size won't allow me to include it all.
If anyone has any ideas what is causing this or how I might diagnose the problem I'd appreciate it

Thanks
Jim

More recent firefox versions isolate plugins in their own process so they can "safely" crash without terminating the firefox process itself. Yours is a crash in the flash plugin - is that up to date? Here I see flash-plugin-27.0.0.183-release.x86_64 as the latest.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Trevor

Yes rpm -qa | grep flash shows flash-plugin-27.0.0.183-release.x86_64

Thanks

Are you sure you even need flash these days? I've had it disabled here for months even though it's still installed. The built in webm stuff now handles pretty much everything I used to need flash for.

Trevor

Well I deactivated the shockwave-flash plug in and don't see anything different about youtube so its onward and upward.

Thanks Again
Jim
