Totem Movie Player, why elapsed/total time is not displayed in the statusbar as in Red Hat and Scientific Linux?
Re: Totem Movie Player, why elapsed/total time is not displayed in the statusbar as in Red Hat and Scientific Linux?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

I know that some alternative solutions exist to Totem Movie Player, e.g. VLC, but I'm searching for 1) a minimal CentOS multimedia installation; 2) a CentOS multimedia installation working good enough when running as a remote desktop in a cloud platform. VLC results worse than Totem Media Player in both respects.

Meanwhile I also checked the Edit->Preferences settings: CentOS and RHEL are the same.

For the record: I rebuilt totem from the source rpm on a fully updated CentOS 6.9 system, and (re)installed the resulting totem rpm. It shows 0:00 / 0:00 properly now.

Is it possible for you share with me the reconstruction process and environment ? I mean the source rpm and the rebuild procedure.
Re: Totem Movie Player, why elapsed/total time is not displayed in the statusbar as in Red Hat and Scientific Linux?
Install some dependencies:
yum install gstreamer-devel gstreamer-plugins-base-devel gstreamer-plugins-good liboil iso-codes-devel gnome-icon-theme libXtst-devel libXi-devel libXxf86vm-devel libXt-devel gnome-doc-utils python-devel pygtk2-devel totem-pl-parser-devel unique-devel GConf2-devel nautilus-devel dbus-devel liberation-sans-fonts libgdata-devel glibc-devel rpm-build gcc gcc-c++
The above list might not be exhaustive. If rpmbuild (below) complains about missing packages or programs, install them as well.
Run the following as a non-root user:
The built packages will end up to RPMS/x86_64, and you can then yum reinstall RPMS/x86_64/totem-2.28.6-4.el6.x86_64.rpm (and perhaps the other totem rpms as well, but reinstalling this one rpm was sufficient to fix the time issue).
(yeah, there are many ways to accomplish this, but I did it this way)

Thank you very much avij.
I think useful filing a bug anyway. Do you agree with me?avij wrote:At this stage, I'd suggest filing a bug at https://bugs.centos.org/
