Need help getting into my laptop

Post by Zardoz911 » 2018/06/02 01:13:15

Hey I haven't bin on my laptop in a few months now and when I went tried to go on it, I realized forgot my System Admistrator password. I am currently running CentOS 6.4 I really need to use my computer but can't. Plz help me if you know how to reset your System Adminstrator account password or change it to get into your laptop? How do I reset/change my system Adminstrator password? I tried just tried what you said and everything worked but two things. When I typed in the new password to sign in. It still said failed. And also after I did the last step of Pressing crep everything else said it wasn't a fail but starting crond. And every time I switch the Gnu Grub version 0.97 script selection of CentOS (2.6.32-358.11.1.e16.i686) out of the other two CentOS (2.6.32-358.11.1.e16.i686.debug) and CentOS (2.6.32-358.e16.i686), it goes back to normal, even tho I clicked enter to accept the changes that don't save. So I'm still locked out of my computer. I tried wiki. Plz help

You can find information about how to reset a forgotten root password in the wiki http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/ResetRootPassword

You also need to update to the latest CentOS 6. 6.4 is not safe to run.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
