Install Previous Firefox?

Post by petermholmes » 2018/07/23 14:40:21

I finally updated this morning after holding off for a week or so and the new Firefox 60.1.0esr (64-bit) is an utter mess on my machine. For instance, to get a tab to update its contents I have to manually select the URL field and hit Enter.

So...can somebody tell me how to remove the current version and reinstall my old version, which I'm guessing must have been pre Firefox release 60? Typically I update within a week or two of stuff showing up on my software update list.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Use yum downgrade firefox to go the previous version. Since that will currently be the first 60.x version, you probably want to specify the full version number like firefox-52.8.0-1.el7.centos to downgrade to a specific version. You can use yum list firefox --showdupli to see all available versions.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

In my case

yum downgrade firefox-52.8.0-1.el6.centos

worked great, Trevor. Thanks for your help!

Maybe consider reverting back to later FF edition, perhaps after some Firefox bugginess has been fixed.

Websites may complain about outdated browser, and of course browser security is an issue with older editions.
