<r>With the latest firefox, I can no longer "automatically" open an attached pdf file in an email. Previously I was able to
view the pdf files since the Open with seems to tied to acroread.

Now, I do not how to configure to use /usr/bin/acroread to make the new firefox to open pdf file by default.

More specifically, I have a small popup window that says

You have chosen to open:
img--any.pdf

which is: application/pdf type
from:

What should Firefox do with this file?
Open with Firefox Web Browser (default)

Other...

But I cannot stick in /usr/bin/acroread in the Other.

May I have missed something.

Note: I saved this post as draft and the gibberish html codes appear.. not my problem.

The new firefox is quite awful to use, to be frank. I have not gained anything except to get some frustration.

I quite agree. This Firefox version stinks. Centos user for many years now. openSUSE, debian, arch, here I come.

It won't make any difference which distro you use, if you use firefox then you will end up with firefox 60+ at some point as all support for older versions will be withdrawn. Don't blame us for the state of firefox, tell Mozilla.

okay, I have a CentOS with FF 52.8.0 (64 bit). Everything works perfectly so far. Seems like I have no choice but to stay with 2.6.32-754.el6.x86_64 until the computer die then (or something breaks..).. All other CentOS box with FF60+ is making me losing productivity. Web base dropbox not connecting soon enough or some weird problem. If this is a universal FF problem, then I shall consider whether to switch to something else eventually. Really really annoyed. Sorry for expressing my disappointment.

firefox has no dependency on what kernel you run so you are not stuck "with 2.6.32-754.el6.x86_64 until the computer die".

Downloaded firefox-52.8.0esr.linux-x86_64.sdk.tar.bz2 or firefox-52.8.0esr.tar.bz2

Tried both. Hit
./firefox
XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /home/someone/Downloads/t/firefox-sdk/bin/libmozgtk.so:
libgtk-3.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Couldn't load XPCOM

Give up.

Just be content with what I have so far..
