Intel Video ValleyView Gen7 Centos 6.5

Post by egurski » 2014/03/30 08:47:22

I am trying to get Xserver to work with this video card (Intel ValleyView Gen7) on Centos 6.5 .

However, when I run X ,I get the error Fatal error : no screens found. The line above reads Loading extension GLX

When I run X -configure I get the error message Number of created screens does not match number of detected devices.

Any suggestions

Thanks

Discovered that Centos 6.5 does not support this device.

My solution

Fedora 19 and onwards supports this video card
I do have a Fedora 20 system running on an older desktop
The older desktop is the same as my failed desktop
Install fedora 20 on the new desktop and migrate everything from the previous Fedora 20.
Once migration is complete, install Centos 6.5 on old Fedora 20 desktop.

It is a lot of work, but my hosting site runs Centos and I need to ensure that all my websites are functioning correctly for my clients.

Sounds like a lot of work. Did you try the old fallback "vesa" X driver?

Could you post the output of `lspci -nn` please.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

My old PC that worked with centos 6.5 has had a new hard drive cloned and I am now recovering the system.

The new system will be returned. It is not what I expected in a tower. An external Power supply (65w) and only 2 internal SATA ports. Trying to add another drive is fine since there is a free bay, but then you need more hardware to do the connection and I am sceptical of the power supply being able to handle this.

I willbe more selective of the next tower and insist that they open the case on the floor model before the purchase. I do miss the days and convenience of a nearby PC MicroCenter ---- always had great deals....
