Intel Graphics Driver installation help

Hi tlc-at-home and TrevorH,

I am trying to do probably the same thing you did -- to enable the 3D feature of " Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller" on my newly installed CentOS 6.5.

I have carefully read and followed your instructions on this same issue. Specifically, the operation system is newly installed, and therefore there is no nvidia or similar issue; it is also confirmed that the xorg-x11-drv-intel.i686 driver has been installed automatically; and I do have "/usr/lib/libGL.so.1 -> libGL.so.1.2.0". However, the 3D feature still does not work and the glxgears gives only 60 FPS though glxinfo indicates that the 3D feature should have been started. The machine works wonderfully in Windows 7 (I have installed double win7/linux OS on this machine). Therefore I believe the video card should be able to support the 3D feature. Any idea how to fix the bug in linux? Thanks a lot!

Your first step is to stop using the deprecated 6.5 version and yum update to 6.8. Support for many Intel video chipsets has been added to newer versions so attempting to run an o/s that predates the hardware is not likely to be successful.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
