Hard drive erros but smart clean

Post by kb9mfd » 2016/09/21 15:17:17

I keep having these errors on multiple servers. Same hardware but recently updated from 5 to 6.

Code: Select all

ata1.00: hard resetting link
ata1.01: hard resetting link
ata1.00: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)
ata1.01: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)
ata1.00: configured for UDMA/133
ata1.01: configured for UDMA/133
ata1: EH complete
This is looped over and over again in /var/log/messages or dmsg command

There does not seem to be any issues, and smart says both drives (they are a RAID1) are just fine with no CRC or any error at all. Is this a bug? Thanks!

That doesn't look like all of the error messages, only the portion after the actual error.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Actually that is all there is, its repeated over and over, both in dmesg and /var/log/messages. That is why I am thinking this may be a kernel or driver bug. There are no other errors.

Changed cables?

No... there actually isn't any. All these servers are identical, same hardware located in different places and the drives are in a removable bay and plug directly into the backplane. I actually have not ever taken one of these apart yet. Same issue across 5 servers or so that are identical and the only change made was upgrading from Centos 5 to Centos 6. Complete wipe of the drives and start over. I don't think its a hardware issue. They are rebranded supermicro blades with two removable hot swap 2.5 bays off the front.

So, the SATA links keep going down, the OS brings them back up again, and you don't think that it is a hardware issue?
