CentOS 6.9 Graphics support

Post by mrw@mwcltd.co.uk » 2017/04/12 12:02:17

I have loaded 6.9 on to an Intel NUC7i3 but I am getting display problems which indicate that the standard distribution does not support the Intel Iris Graphics 620. I think that I need a driver. Can someone point me in the right direction. As an aside I have also loaded 6.9 on an Intel NUC7i7 which has the 640 graphics and I get the same display problems. On a high note, everything else works although you have to be careful what NVMe SSD you you use as there is a massive performance between cheap and high cost.

I doubt if any future updates will add support for newer graphics chips. CentOS 6 enters what's known as "Production Phase 3" upstream at RH on May 10th 2017 and at that point, only critical updates will get released for it. Can you not use CentOS 7?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
