Enabling AHCI causes random hard drive assignment

Post by raphk » 2011/07/24 21:39:05

Hi Everyone -
Having an interesting issue where if AHCI is enabled in the bios for SATA ports, every time the system is rebooted, new /dev/sdX letters are assigned randomly. So my /dev/sda may be /dev/sdg next time i reboot, and changes again at EVERY reboot.

The motherboard is a PK5-E (Intel ICH9R), with drives plugged into the on board SATA & to a PCI-express 4 port. Any thoughts?

Welcome to CentOS.

Thank you for the reply - I was more wondering why this is happening, and how to stop it. The drives are not being moved from sata port to sata port - doesn't seem right. but thanks again!
