Anyway, there is another invention, the M-DISC. They claim that properly stored M-DISC recordings will last 1000 years. :)

I'm going to try the CDRTools reference and try and burn my BluRay.

But, what was said about magnetic spinning media lasting longer then optical media goes against what many have said in the past. I've got DVD and CD burned when Skippy was just a puppy and they work just fine. But in that time frame with 6 machines running SATA none of them have the original disks. That is the reason I started using RAID-1 and RAID-5 so when a disk died I wouldn't lose everything. Also, I don't use the cheap drives 99% are WD Black 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB.

The M-DISC is the designation on my LG BluRay drive.

That means it can write M-disc, but you need to actually buy M-disc media - which are a lot more expensive than the usual dye-based discs.
