Problem assigning static IP adress to network interface.

Post by JacobI » 2015/02/16 17:48:31

Hello, I want to assign static IP adress 192.168.100.1 to eth1 network interface.
I run a mac OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.2 and Virtual box with CentOS 6.6 minimal.

Mac DNS = 8.8.8.8
Router = 192.168.1.1
IPv4 Address = 192.168.1.80

So i basically follow this guide http://www.unixmen.com/quick-tip-config ... entos-6-5/ except i am assigning in the interface in eth1 and with different IP adress.
I'm not getting it to work so i have a couple questions.
The default gateway is my routers ip and should be 192.168.1.1 right?
When i configure my DNS server should i be
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 192.168.1.1
?

VirtualBox can be set up to use a NAT network and it sounds like you are using this since you want to give the guest its own ip address in a different subnet to that of the host. You have to tell VB that you want to use that subnet - it defaults to 192.168.122.0/24 I believe. First step is to change that subnet to the one you want. Once you've done that then your host will have a network interface with an IP address in that subnet and that is the one that should be used as your gateway from the guest.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
