[SOLVED] DNS ISSUE - Dig is ok but ping packats RX is 0
Re: DNS ISSUE - Dig is ok but ping packats RX is 0
DNS has nothing to do with routing. You can have a DNS server that does routing if it's set up to do so but most are not. Your router should be the default route, not your DNS server. If you send packets to your DNS server then it will just discard them as it won't know what to do with them (unless it's set up to do routing as well).
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

My vm's are running on static IP and dhclient isn't running either. any idea how to work around making persistent resolv.conf entries for nameservers?gerald_clark wrote:Your DHCP server is misconfigured.
It defines the gateway and nameservers for DHCP clients.

/etc/resolv.conf does not get overwritten unless
1. Your vmware somehow changes it.
2. You are using dhcp.
3. You have configured DNS servers in your ifcfg files.

My nameservers in resolv.conf is now persistent after i manually add the nameservers via the gui in Network Connections -> etho -> ipv4 (edit) -> DNS Servers
