eth0 Not Coming Up

Post by krazybob » 2017/05/06 02:35:55

I have installed 6.2 x86_64 and as expected the machine is available from the outside world but I can't ssh into it. I HAVE read the FAQ and changed BOOTPROTO=static and ONBOOT=yes but now joy. I added ifup eth0 to rc.local and that doesn't work.

FAQ is at https://wiki.centos.org/FAQ/CentOS6#hea ... 32c6ff7c90

What am I doing wrong? I have to IPKVM into the box just to execute the ifcg-eth0 command.

Thank you for your help.

[root@hw001 network-scripts]# cat ifcfg-eth0
DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=xx.xx.xx.xx
BROADCAST=xx.xx.xx.xx
NETMASK=xx.xx.xx.xx
GATEWAY=xx.xx.xx.xx
DNS1=8.8.4.4
DNS2=8.8.8.8
HWADDR=00:30:48:5b:32:16
NM_CONTROLLED=yes
ONBOOT=yes
TYPE=Ethernet
IPV6INIT=no
USERCTL=no

Why on earth would you install 6.2, a sub-release that went out of support when 6.3 came out in June 2012. That makes 6.2 more than 6 *years* old with 6 years worth of security vulnerabilties - many of those giving instant root access to local or remote users.

Use 6.9.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
Use the FAQ Luke

Because it is an older piece of hardware that doesn't like 6.8 or 7. Could you please just answer the question? I'm trying to be respectful but it doesn't seem to be mutual.

Apparently you are incapable of rational discussion and choose contempt and alienation over actually helping. We KNOW that 6.2 is older and WE HAVE tried installing 6.9 and it has failed repeatedly. This exact issue existed with 6.9 and caused to go backwards looking for a solution that was not solved by your FAQ. So once again, do you think you can actually put your ego aside and just answer the question or will this just be another time when you decide that a lesser experienced user will just get ignored? This is a Virtuozzo server that we need to get files off of to put on 7.3. Your help would be appreciated. But Trevor, why YOU consistently bust my balls amazes me.
