cant setup Bridged Virtual Hosts

Post by mazman » 2011/08/05 20:40:10

Hi everyone,

I would like to setup multiple Cent OS 6 virtual hosts on CENT OS 6 box and have the virtual hosts systems each pull there own ip address from my router. I have have read that I probably need to setup a bridge connection to my eth0 device, but I have not been successful using the GUI tools provided by the virt manager or Network Configuration Tools. I am sure the issues is that I am new to Linux and CENT OS. Con someone provide instructions on how to get my virtual hosts to pull IPs from my router so they are all accessable by those IP's.

some Details
my internal router has an address of 129.4.14.1 with ip address assigned from 129.4.14.100 - 150

My Host Cent OS 6 is working with it pulling a DHCP address and for eth0. So basic internet/network connectivity seems to be setup correctly for the Host Cent OS system.

Thanks for any help that can be provided,

John

Welcome to the CentOS fora. Please see the recommended reading for new users linked in my signature.

You don't explicitly say - are you using KVM? If so a google on qemu-kvm site:redhat.com may be helpful, or perhaps the more tightly targeted qemu-kvm bridged network "enterprise linux 6" site:redhat.com.

If more help is needed then please provide more information about your system by running "./getinfo.sh network" on the host and showing us the output file.

Hi Phil and thanks for the reply.

Please forgive me Im very new to linux and CENT OS 6, but I like what I see so far! Im not sure how to tell if its KVM. I have been attempting to set this up using the VIRT Manager that came installed with GNOME GUI. I basically downloaded the CENT OS 6 standard ISO last week and saw that it came with VIRT already installed. That said, I there was a drop down to select KVM or QUME (i hope I got that correct) I selected KVM thinking that it utilize the hardware visualization that come with my chipset/mobo.

Perhaps Im taking too big a bite here with VIRT-Manager being so new to linux. Perhaps there is another VMWare like product that I should use that is more fool proof from a GUI setup.

I will run the script referenced and add its contents to this post!

Thanks John

I have not tried KVM, but it is what TUV has chosen to support for Virtualization so it may well be the best choice for a fresh start.

My current favorite is VirtualBox but that is not the right choice for everyone.

Whatever your choice it will come with a learning curve. Please review the links above and in my last post, and ask questions if you need help picking the best choice for your needs.

To pursue the current question the script output is needed.
