I did a search to locate a library for a specific book. The result took me to the WorldCat Web site. There was a place to enter my zipcode, but it was already filled in--and correctly! How did that Web site get my zipcode?
The only idea I had was that my IP address, which the Web site ipso facto had, somehow led the Web site to my location (zipcode). I tried whois with my IP address, but I didn't see my zipcode in what came up. I tried dig but didn't see my zipcode in what came up with that either. (I do admit that I know very little about the powerful dig command.)
My ISP is Time Warner; the whois inquiry did reveal that. But could a 3rd-party Web site like WorldCat.org possiblly get my location from a Time Warner data base?
Thanks so much.

Maybe your browser autocompleted it?
