xcfe & java programs

Post by rekke » 2015/03/05 04:43:00

I've been following some instructions to set up my vps with Centos 5 with XFCE Desktop.

I've managed to get to the point where I can open up my browser and go to the java program, however when I go to save/run it, it says I need a program to run it with and I cannot find one to launch it with.
When I was setting it up one of the commands I did was

"yum install Java7"
however that seems to not be working when I go to launch my java program :(

I then tried to go to firefox and install Java but it says I have nothing to run the installer with.

thanks!

1) Is java installed? What happens when you type java -version at the command prompt.
2) Do you have the java plugin installed in firefox? I think you need to install icedtea-web.
3) Is the application a java web start application? I think icedtea-web provides that.
