Many problems and many questions

Hi, I have some problems with a dedicated server that uses 64-bit Centos 5 and works with Plesk 10.

That partition will be saved logs to know that is what is wrong?

As I can resize the usr partition via console?

As I can empty the root partition, install file already in use?

How to create a back up of data bases through console?

The usr partition keeps logs and more things that the server is saturated, but know that it could be, I want to do is resize the partition.

I hope you can help me, only I have access to the server console and with Plesk, so I want to know how could resize the partition usr empty or if the files that are no longer needed.

Everything was fine but the plesk 10 went crazy and the company (1and1.com) does not want to be held accountable for failures in plesk, I hope I can help.

Welcome to the CentOS fora. Reading FAQ & Readme First is recommended for new users.

In general you have not provided enough information to get good help.

Plesk provides a heavily modified version of the OS that is not true CentOS. To better understand please read:

Advice from here might actually break your system. Have you tried Plesk Support?

System logs are in /var/log/

It is safest way to resize filesystems is off-line. Exactly how depends on your partitioning and if LVM is in use, but booting from LiveCD or rescue media would be advisable.

I have no idea what that means.

Depends on what databases you want to back up. Not enough information.

That does not sound like a very reliable hosting provider. For more help you need to provide better information. Please read How to provide information about your system and provide the output from running ./getinfo.sh.

Not familiar with Plesk but:

1. In linux it might be under /var/log/.

2. Probably not without bringing down the server. I would boot from CD ,run systemrescuecd and resize with gparted. Sound like you can't do that though.

3. Look above

4. Depends on the specific DB but google for mysql, postgresq, etc backup script. Schedule it with cron.

5. ?.

You have ssh access to port 22 so look at accessing the server with winscp (free windows app) to get a grasp on your files and folders on your server.

I think somebody already said that. :-)

Quite possibly, but the OP did not mention ssh.

That might be relevant if a Redmond OS had been mentioned, which it has not. The major problems seem to be a language barrier and a lack of substantive information,

I had a similar problem but was able to resolve this by deleting all the packages in the Applications Vault. These do seem to take up quite alot of space and for my purposes they are simply not required.

Not sure how I manage to disable this feature from future updates as would prefer to install and upgrade manually anyway.
