If the DVD was properly burned as an image such that you can see the directory structure, then burning again is unlikely to help. Sounds like a hardware/BIOS issue. Can you boot from other DVDs in the same drive?[/quote]
Yes I can, I used that same drive to install a variety of OSes on a netbook, while on this machine I did manage to boot with a Gparted CD and a Windows7 DVD, so I guess the drive is working properly. The machine also successfully boots from a USB pendrive; that should mean the BIOS settings are correct.

Re: CentOS 5.7 DVD won't boot
Guess you said that in the first post, now that I re-read it. I'm at a loss to explain why the CentOS DVD would not boot if burned properly, and readable on the same hardware. Might try burning on different hardware if possible.
Re: CentOS 5.7 DVD won't boot
I've had exactly this issue in the last few days with a rebuild of a PC.
I'm using a SATA optical drive, DVD-R media and could not get a 5.7, 5.6 installation DVD to boot.
I found that if I swapped in the BIOS the SATA mode to IDE for the ports connected to the DVD-ROM, then it would boot without issues.
However, if in AHCI mode it would not.
