Setting up my server :S

Hey ive recently purchased a Centos 5.5 and ive search through google with no luck i have no idea how to set it up i tried connecting to it through remote management but cannot connect help!

Your provider should supply you with details about the IP address of the server and give you a username and password to connect with. Chances are that they expect you to connect using ssh or some Windows ssh emulator like putty. If they haven't supplied you with these details then the only people that can help you are those that provided the server in the first place.

ive access it through putty but do not know what to do from there .

Welcome to the CentOS fora. Please see the recommended reading for new users linked in my signature.

You have given us no idea what you want to do, so it is virtually impossible to offer any specific advice.

If you want to use GUI tools you will need an X server, or use [url=http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/VNC-Server]VNC[/url] or [url=http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/FreeNX]NX[/url]. Alternatively you might use a web interface such as [url=http://webmin.com/]Webmin[/url].

In any case, your provider should not be suppling an obsolete, insecure, and unsupported release, and should be providing at least some guidance. 5.7 is the current release. See the [url=http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS5.7]CentOS 5.7 Release Notes[/url] for details.
