Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception (Elastix)

Post by Pantela » 2014/04/10 12:36:26

Hello.
I install Elastix distribution http://www.elastix.org/index.php/en/dow ... istro.html

Operating system: CentOS Linux 5.9
Kernel: Linux(i386)-2.6.18-348.1.1.el5
Processor information Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2130 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 4 cores
RAM: 4Gb
HDD: 1Tb
MB: Asus

Job correct, but any time server is stoped and write Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception
I test RAM with memtest86, not error. Some people tell me that error maybe in HDD, because 1Tb is very big storage :(( Server can't to install smartmontools yum install -y smartmontools because all mirror is can't to connect.
Thx. Please help me :(

Run "yum update", install whatever updates are available, reboot, and try again.

If after installing all the available updates you don't end up with "kernel-2.6.18-371.6.1" (check with uname -r), your distribution is broken and you should complain to the Elastix guys.

Absolutely useless obscuring the very information we need to be able to help you. Check that x.x.x.x in your post really does do DNS resolution or set it to Google's 8.8.8.8 and see if that helps.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Well, I said run "yum update", install whatever updates are available. I did not say run "yum update kernel".

If you ask on this forum, you'll get answers saying that you should run "yum update" to update all the components of your system. However, as you are not really using CentOS but Elastix, you should ask them for a second opinion. They should know if it's OK to update your system to 5.10, which "yum update" without any further arguments would do. Do note that there are multiple security issues in CentOS that have been fixed between 5.9 and 5.10, so updating is strongly recommended.

They seem to have a nice forum for your questions, where you should have posted your question in the first place.
